About us

We are the Quantum Optics and Quantum Information Research Unit. Our Unit is the theory division of TU Wien’s Institute of Atomic and Subatomic Physics — the Atominstitut — in Vienna’s second district. We are formed from seven independent research groups, all based at the Atominstitut, who closely collaborate on a variety of topics in the modern quantum sciences. Parts of our Research Unit are also affiliated to the Austrian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information in Vienna’s ninth district.

Open & Accessible Science

We feel strongly that science should be accessible to all people who want to practice it and to all that want to learn from it.
Research in Foundations, Theory & Experiment

Spanning everything from Quantum Key Distribution experiments to the foundations of Quantum Thermodynamics, we’re pushing boundaries across all of QI and QT.
Socializing

We love doing science together, but we also believe that life’s not just about work, grants, or papers. Sometimes it’s time to QuIT and enjoy activities like hiking, barbecues, food battles, and group celebrations to recharge, bond, and generate ideas in relaxed atmospheres.
